Vision

Jesus continually tells us, as he told his disciples, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, except through me.”—John 14:6

Notice first the threefold and universality of Jesus’s statement; all nations, all things, all days.  Catholic, meaning universal, is the embracing characteristic of all nations, all teachings, all times. Looking through the eyes of the Church we can see the world as it really is. We can see the truth that is the person of Christ, as opposed to looking at him through the eyes of the world. Otherwise, we see the world the way we want; we see confusion.
what Jesus sees
Guided by the Holy Spirit, the Church sees the world through the eyes of Jesus. It sees what Jesus sees, it sees the whole truth it sees what is truly there.

As Frank Sheed puts it in his book Theology and Sanity, “The soul consists of two parts, the will, and the intellect. The will is to love, the intellect is to understand.” The man who uses his intellect in religion is using it to see what is truly there. The alternative to seeing what is there, is either not seeing what is there, and this is darkness; or seeing what is not there, and this is error.” The Catholic Church uniting faith and reason, intellect and will, helps pilgrims on earth to avoid the error and superstition and the purposelessness of pure rationalism.

It is often said that religion is man’s foolish attempt to find God, religion, however, is also God’s attempt to find man. The religion Christ gave the world, for all times and all places and all people, comes through his apostles, it is safeguarded by the Holy Spirit and is proclaimed in its fullness by the Catholic Church. It was were man finds the answers to his struggles between the head and the heart and finds true peace and lasting joy.

Why Catholic.com seeks to provide Catholics and Non-Catholics alike with resources to better understand the one faith Jesus Christ left for the whole world. For believers, it helps you “to be prepared to give a defense of your belief.” (1 Peter 3:15). At the same time, Why Catholic seeks to re-engage those who have lost their faith or joined other denominations and help them understand, “Why Catholic?”

We hope and pray that with these intellectual resources, with the “Why”, you may find new inspiration to follow Christ with your heart, a new “how.” Jesus, Love, and Truth Himself, calls you. Find out more about Him, and his Church, at WhyCatholic.
